The sunrise and sea inspired this boutique hotel unique yellow and blue color scheme, located in on the fringe of Playa's Centro district. Whereas some local properties play up Playa del Carmen’s Mayan roots, Mosquito Blue opted for luxury, regardless of provenance. For instance, many of the hotel’s 45 rooms contain Indonesian-style mahogany beds, white Egyptian linens, and Italian furnishings. The resort, located a mere 100 yards from the beach, promises two pools, the full-service Spa Itza, and a restaurant that specializes in Mediterranean-Italian cuisine, courtesy of chef Vito Semeraro.
