Designer Marcel Wanders set out to create a “Sleeping Beauty’s castle” for South Beach, and with details such as a grand spiral staircase and crystal chandelier showerheads, he’s produced a hotel that’s whimsical as well as peaceful. The pool is surrounded by gardens with secluded corners, and an expansive terrace looks out on Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami. Rooms come with enormous digitally manipulated femme-fatale paintings. When it all becomes too much retreat to the hotel’s waterside patio to take in the Technicolor sunset over downtown Miami.
