Located among vineyards in the Wachau Valley of Lower Austria, the Loisium Resort is all about wine. American architect Steven Holl designed the airy structure that sits atop an extensive maze of wine cellars dating back 900 years. The hotel resembles a foil cube, appearing to hover over glass pilings. Wine-based beauty products and soaking tubs made from actual wine barrels can be found at the luxury Aveda spa. The resort's 82 guest rooms overlook rolling vineyards and are decorated in wine-related themes, many with maps of the cellars hanging on the walls. A heated outdoor swimming pool is open year-round.
