La Résidence Hue Hôtel & Spa
Formerly the residence of the French colonial governor, this 1930s manse opened its doors as a hotel in 2005 after a painstaking restoration. Its Art Deco feel extends far beyond the striking bowed façade and porthole windows: vermillion club chairs grace the on-site Le Gouverneur bar, while the 122 rooms are appointed with vintage-style light fixtures, ceramic-tiled bathrooms, and photographs of old Hue. Most of the rooms are located in the two modern wings that flank the saltwater pool, but the 10 individually decorated ones in the original building are the real draw. Each room has a private balcony or terrace; ask for a west-facing one to enjoy spectacular sunsets, complete with the Perfume River and the outer gate of the 19th-century citadel as the backdrop.
