It’s no surprise that the Kube, in Paris’s up-and-coming La Goutte d’Or neighborhood, fully celebrates the cube, ”the most modern of shapes,” according to the general director, Jérôme Foucaud. The shape plays a part throughout, from the Louvre-inspired glass box that functions as the reception area to the 41 rooms, where rectangular beds are lit from below (and appear to levitate). Clever gimmicks aren’t confined to shapes alone: there’s also an Ice Kube bar made of, yes, ice; electronic fingerprint readers instead of room keys; a sound system concealed within red ceiling fixtures; and a modern version of the lava lamp, with fluid images projected onto plasma screens.
