<p>In 2005, Ronald and Shelby Mitchell—a former D.C. ad exec and lawyer—discovered a deteriorating 1874 Colonial-style mansion, which they restored to the tune of $2 million. Open since 2006, the Inn at 202 Dover's four suites are now tastefully decorated with velvet-covered settees, toile curtains and pelmets, and antiques such as a bamboo canopy bed. The genteel touches are accompanied by modern amenities; all rooms are equipped with flat-screen TV's, steam showers, and jet-stream tubs. Each morning, Ronald prepares breakfast (orange croissant French toast with ham, or vegetable quiche), which he serves on Wedgwood china in the glass-ceilinged conservatory; and each evening, his homemade chocolate chip cookies await guests in their rooms.</p>
