This design hotel is so close to Barcelona’s center that everything but Montjuïc is within walking distance. Concepted by architect Juli Capella and the well-known interior design duo Sandra Tarruella and Isabel López as a three-dimensional Zen mantra balancing color and form in peaceful, unbroken spaces, the Omm’s attention to detail even extends to the telephone waiting music—those on hold will be treated to heady strains of Philip Glass. Dark, slender hallways burst into 91 clean-lined, well-lighted rooms with views over interior courtyards and Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona’s grandest shopping avenue. The restaurant, Moo, run by the famous Roca brothers of Girona’s Michelin-starred Celler de Can Roca, serves a surprising counterpoint of classical cuisine and original creations such as mojito ice cream with a candy Havana cigar. Drawing a dazzling crowd of Barcelona’s postgraduate crème de la crème, the hotel bar is an uproarious hub for after-dinner drinks.

Room to Book: Ask for the rooms looking over to the back of Gaudí’s undular Pedrera apartment building (the higher the better), or the upper rooms looking east down Passeig de Gràcia.

Insider Tip: Don’t miss the Wednesday-through-Saturday-night Omm Sessions with leading disc jockeys spinning hot selections downstairs from midnight to 3 a.m.
