Housed in an 18th-century palacete at the heart of the medieval Gothic Quarter, this boutique hotel combines tradition with an edgy Cristina Gabás-designed interior. Named for the tiny Sant Felip Neri square with its Baroque church façade scarred with shrapnel marks from a 1938 Spanish Civil War bombing by Franco forces, the Neri is a mere minute from the Cathedral cloister and just 200 yards from the Rambla. The 21 guest rooms (and one suite) are stylish—with light gray walls, dark wood furnishings, and marble bathrooms—but some interior rooms are on the small side, and the luminous exterior rooms can be noisy when school is in session across the square below. The rooftop terrace is the place for breakfast or an evening libation up at bell tower level.
Room to Book: The top floors have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Plaça Sant Felip Neri. Rooms 301 and 302 have the best and brightest views, while 303, 304, and 305 have terraces but no views of the square.
Insider Tip: Segways and electric bikes are available in the lobby for hotel guests, though a good pair of walking shoes remains the best way to navigate Barcelona.
