Just a block from the roaring Passeig de Gràcia (Barcelona’s Champs-Élysées) and surrounded by the city’s main shops and most important architecture, this former stately townhouse, the classical Palau Vedruna, is now an utterly modern oasis. From the glass elevators that whip up and down through hanging vegetation and waterfalls to hotel owner Jordi Clos’s Egyptian archaeological collection in the lobby, the Claris is surprising at every turn. All 120 guest rooms are chic and ultra-spare, but the 41 junior, duplex, and large duplex suites are by far the hotel’s most comfortable accommodations. The rooftop terrace—complete with bar, breakfast area, and swimming pool—is an ideal midtown refuge in the summer.
Insider Tip: Don’t miss dining at East 47, the buzzy on-site restaurant with Andy Warhol–redux décor. Chef Daniel Padró dishes up original and eclectic interpretations of new and old recipes.
Room to Book: Whether you’re booking a room or a suite, the higher the better is the rule of thumb for more light, less noise, and greater proximity to the rooftop resources.
