If you’re into Swedish interior design, you may not want to leave this hotel (named after the city founder) in the residential neighborhood Vasastan in north Stockholm. Everything from the uniforms to the furniture has been designed by Swedish designers you may have heard of, or will soon. With 235 rooms, it’s a fairly large hotel clinging to a small boutique identity. And it nearly pulls it off. Twelve of the rooms are mini art installations created by Swedish interior gurus, everything from a modern Japanese interpretation to a playful room reminiscent of a cupcake with sprinkles. The Currant Suite, for example, has currant bushes growing on its balcony; in The Matisse Room, the color scheme is based on Matisse paintings from the late 1930s.
Insider Tip: Check out Nalen nearby and you’ve got the whole evening covered; the classic restaurant has an attached rock club and theater that hosts regular concerts.
Room to Book: Room 710, designed by Jonas Bohlin, comes with its own rooftop terrace and a white picket fence.
