<p>The clean-lined and sleek Hotel Antumalal stands on the edge of Pucón, a backpacker's town with a Wild West feel and a surplus of Internet cafés. Built in the 1950's as an ultramodern lakeside resort, its Bauhaus-influenced architect, Jorge Elton, was inspired by the terraced 13-acre park that surrounds it. The lobby combines tree-slab tables and shaggy fur rugs, formerly cutting-edge elements that now seem decidedly of another era. The 22 rooms blend wood paneling, stone fireplaces, and panoramic windows with views of Lake Villarrica. The natural theme continues in the spa—with treatments such as reflexology and stone massages—and in the restaurant, which serves local river trout, and produce plucked from the property's garden.</p>
