At the end of a lavender-and-cypress-lined drive in Majorca's southeastern countryside, the Gran Hotel Son Julia presides over a landscape of orange and almond groves with an air of noblesse oblige. Once home to the aristocratic Julia family, the 15th-century stone estate is flanked by stucco terraces, jasmine-filled gardens, and two pools. The interiors are equally fit for royalty: abstract paintings by Majorcan artist Miquel Mesquida Sansó hang beneath vaulted ceilings; radiant handmade glass sconces light the terrazzo-floored hallways; and many of the 24 guest rooms are outfitted with four-poster beds. There's even a tiny Gothic chapel and a Mudejar-style salon inspired by the Alhambra.
