While Galway has been gaining attention as a seaside bolt-hole for euro-flush Dubliners, the new G Hotel is about to permanently alter notions about Irish style. Designed by the celebrated milliner Philip Treacy—famous for his fanciful collaborations with Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen—the steel-and-glass complex uses provocative and witty visual references, such as Versailles, the Ziegfeld Follies, and Andy Warhol. A long public gallery is punctuated by a catwalk carpet in raspberry red; the silver-toned Grand Salon is Treacy’s own Hall of Mirrors; and the Pink Salon is defined by hot-pink camouflage-print sofas. The 101 bedrooms, adorned with sketches by fashion illustrator David Downton, include a suite named after supermodel Linda Evangelista.
