Four Seasons Resort, Bali at Jimbaran Bay

COST: $$$$$

Expectedly luxurious and dramatic, this Four Seasons sits atop a cliff at the southern end of Jimbaran Bay. The 147 thatched-roof pavilions are furnished in carved teak and upholstered in tropical batik fabrics; some have kitchenettes, and all have gardens, and terraces with private plunge pools that staffers sprinkle daily with frangipani blossoms. Views from them spill out over the sea and the soaring peak of Mount Agung, and many have private access to the resort's private, white-sand beach, with its arsenal of water sports (catamarans, windsurfers, and canoes). Faultless service and a super snazzy spa (where treatment rooms all have their own bougainvillea-filled courtyards) leave you wanting for nothing. Casual, beachside PJ's is the better of the resort's two restaurants; it serves fresh seafood brought daily from the local market (less than a mile away), and is a super spot for chilling out over sundowners.

Tip: Sign up for a half-day Balinese cooking class, led by the resort's Indonesian chefs, which includes a tour of the local fish and vegetable market and lessons in the resort's custom-built kitchen.

Rooms to Book: Nine 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom villas have their own private beach access, kitchens, pools, gardens, and personal staff. Of these, Villa #3 has the largest garden and pool.
