Just over an hour’s drive northeast from Cape Town, this chic oasis in the up-and-coming Swartland wine region is the embodiment of rural respectability. The 17,000-acre farm and game reserve sits beside the Elandsberg mountains and abuts a lakelike reservoir that’s ideal for fishing, windsurfing, and game drives. Family antiques fill the four-room Victorian homestead, a separate suite, and a stand-alone cottage, which are surrounded by wheat fields and fynbos heaths blooming with gladiolus and hyacinth. Inside, floral- and gingham-splashed fabrics accent rooms adjoining verandas wreathed in oak trees and rosebushes. The food in the dining room reflects a serious sense of place: Local wines are served with entrées made from ingredients sourced in the area, such as lemon beurre-blanc kabeljou, a native fish, or rack of Riebeek lamb from a nearby valley.
