<p>A further testament to the pace of development in the area is Altiplánico Sur—a bunker hotel set into a hillside, its roof covered in grass and dandelions, and its façade faced in bricks of turf. The 22 smallish rooms are heavy on concrete (walls, bed platforms, nightstands) and metal (wrought-iron chairs, steel-and-glass tables), softened here and there with a sheepskin rug or a driftwood lamp. All have good views, but those closest to the property's central hall offer slightly better ones. If you don't already have an agenda, the small but friendly staff can point you toward the many operators in nearby Puerto Natales for guidance. This being Patagonia, it's unlikely you'll go wrong.</p>
