Casamento’s
4330 Magazine St.;504-895-9761.
The options are few at this narrow oyster bar, which, lined entirely in tile, looks a little like a Turkish bath. It’s where you go for some of the city’s best raw oysters on the half shell and fried seafood, either loaded onto platters or pressed between pieces of pan bread (big buttered toast). Co-owner Joseph Casamento, who had lived in an apartment above the restaurant since 1925, died of a heart attack while evacuating New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, but the restaurant still managed to reopen in November 2005.
