On the North Shore—a big-surf mecca where burritos and burgers rule—chef Fred DeAn-gelo has launched this refreshing, open-air beachside restaurant on the grounds of the Turtle Bay Resort. His contemporary American cooking made largely with locally produced ingre-dients doesn’t break new ground, but it’s well rendered, and well above par for the area.

Kahuku corn chowder with smoked bacon; five-spice braised beef short ribs; crab cakes with lemongrass-soy beurre blanc.
