Tracing the Ancient Tea Horse Trail from Lhasa in Tibet through China’s Yunnan province and into Myanmar and Laos, this multilevel restaurant, which opened just last year in a renovated villa, recreates the cuisines of the Dai, Bai and Miao ethnic hill tribes, to great effect. Some of the best dishes are the richly spiced curries, heavy on the garlic, onion and chile and featuring Southeast Asian accents and funky mushroom varieties. The space is decked out in Buddhist sculptures, with a wall mosaic made from p’uerh tea.
