Greek-Australian chef David Laris, formerly of Mezzo in London, is off to a running start in Shanghai: He’s launching a restaurant in the upcoming Jia hotel; overseeing a chain of epicurean shops called Slice; and heading up the kitchen at this Michael Graves–designed spot, with a dramatic white-marble dining room, on Shanghai’s famous Bund. Laris calls his Asian-tinged menu “contemporary New World”; it’s complemented by a good wine selection and a menu of decadent confections made by the in-house chocolatier.
