Sorry Microsoft, Your Invite to Happy Hour Is Not That Dank
Regardless of the brand’s other accomplishments, Microsoft has never been “cool.” Not even that talking paper clip. Bill Gates is obviously a genius, but even he admitted he wasn’t that “cool.” Steve Ballmer… Have you ever watched him cheering at a Clippers game? Definitely not “cool.” Even before Apple came and pulled the coolness rug out from underneath PCs, using Windows didn’t make you cool; it’s just what everyone had to use.
Now, here we are in 2016, and as if our lack of interest in Surfaces and Windows phones wasn’t enough, Microsoft decided to reinforce its lack of cool credibility by sending out an unfortunately-worded party invite to some of its interns. After a tweet of the invite went viral, the company even apologized for the sad attempt at being hip.

“HEY BAE INTERN! <3,” the email from a Microsoft University Recruiter inviting Bay Area Microsoft interns to a party at the company’s San Francisco office began. It never quite recovers from there, later promising “hella noms, lots of dranks [and] the best beats.” Plus your mom’s boyfriend will be there! “HELL YES TO GETTING LIT ON A MONDAY NIGHT,” the message concludes in orange lettering.
The email speaks for itself, which is why a Microsoft spokesman eventually had to start speaking on its behalf. “The email was poorly worded and not in keeping with our values as a company,” a spokesperson with a better command of the English language told Gizmodo. “We are looking into how this occurred and will take appropriate steps to address it.” Maybe give your employees iPhones?
