Celebrate Halloween with the Senseless Slaughter of Animated Snails in ‘Escargore’

By Mike Pomranz |

It’s horror movie season, but I know some people are more inclined to enjoy a slasher flick than others. If you’re on the squeamish side, “Escargore” is a good baby step.

Created by third year production students at New Zealand’s Media Design School, the five-minute short follows the unfortunate exploits of a group of animated snails who find themselves stuck in a real-life kitchen. The “plot” doesn’t go much beyond seeing these poor snails meet a swift end, but the animation and other work behind the project—which took 22 students four months to complete—are extremely well done.

For my tastes, though, there is one thing missing: There’s not a single killing from salt. Whatever happened to the classics?
