‘Roughing It’ Now Includes Camping with a Wood-Fired Pizza Oven
Even though the whole point of camping is to enjoy the great outdoors, you always want to bring at least a few amenities: a tent, maybe a flashlight, a roll of toilet paper never hurt. But at some point, the idea of “roughing it” turns into “why didn’t you just stay at a four-star resort?” That point is when you pack BioLite’s BaseCamp PizzaDome portable wood-burning pizza oven and USB charger.
Yes, if you’re sick of ordering delivery pizza to your campground, not because it defeats the entire purpose of camping, but because it isn’t freshly wood-fired, BioLite’s new accessory for its BaseCamp wood-fired oven will convert the company’s standard 18-pound oven into the perfect way to “cook up pizzas, flatbreads, and other favorites.” The pizza attachment even comes with “an integrated thermometer” because the only thing worse than not having wood-fired pizza while camping is being stuck eating burnt wood-fired pizza while camping.
Of course, the PizzaDome accessory only accentuates the normal features of the BaseCamp oven (the two can be purchased together in a bundle for just $369.95) which includes converting heat into usable electricity to power a USB power output – because you don’t want your smartphone to die while you’re camping. Otherwise, you might not be able to Instagram all the wood-fired pizza you’re eating.
Interestingly, though the PizzaDome is only now available for sale to the public, according to The Verge, the accessory was originally introduced as a stretch goal for the BaseCamp’s 2014 Kickstarter campaign. I’m not sure which is more shocking, that you can now make wood-fired pizza while camping or that a Kickstarter campaign actually followed through on its promises?
