This Underwater Video of Poaching an Egg Is Surprisingly Enthralling

Need a recipe for a viral video? Try this:

Take one egg and one GoPro camera. Place the camera in a pot of boiling water. Crack the egg, toss it in the pot and let boil for 25 seconds. Serve to Reddit immediately.

It’s a simple dish, but with more than half a million views in just a few days, it’s one the Internet clearly has an appetite for. Who knew so many people wanted to know what it feels like to stick your head in boiling water?

Possibly even more interesting than watching an egg cook, we’ve learned that a GoPro camera can withstand being boiled—at least for 25 seconds. According to Reddit user MakeSushi1, who says he shot the video and posted it to the social news site, the camera had a rough ride:

“I placed the gopro in the standard underwater case it comes with and when the air inside the case got too hot it expanded causing the case to fracture creating a leak, this was towards the end so as soon as it happened I pulled it out before much water could get in, anyway when I took it out the case the LCD screen was blacked out and the camera was very hot and unresponsive.... honestly thought I broke it, once it cooled down though it started to work again and to my surprise it now works fine and saved the video footage!”

Interesting. But will it blend???
