This Shop Is Selling a $2,000 Cronut Knock-Off
Good news for everyone out there who’s been looking to drop $2,000 on a doughnut: You can now drop $2,000 on a doughnut. But warning: The doughnuts were specifically created for this weekend’s Just Eat Food Fest in London – and buying last minute plane tickets to the UK probably won’t be cheap. They might even be like, maybe, “doughnut expensive.”
Created by London’s Dum Dums Donutterie – which I believe may be named after the people the shop expects to drop four-figures on doughnuts – the “Luxury Zebra Cro” as it is called is an unofficial Cronut (which remains a registered trademark of Dominique Ansel’s bakery) made with “saffron-infused butter croissant dough, Cristal rosé Champagne caviar, gold leaf, Tahitian gold vanilla beans and rare Amedei Porcelana chocolate,” according to the Huffington Post.
“After months of testing flavour combinations with some of the world’s rarest and specially sourced ingredients, I’ve created the most luxurious Cro I’ve tasted!” Dum Dum founder Paul Hurley said according to the Mirror. And for a mere £1,500 pounds, you can see if you agree with him!
For Americans interested in giving this luxury animal-anointed doughnut a try, keep in mind that, post-Brexit, the British pound has been hanging around a historically low exchange rate to the dollar. Just a couple months ago, this doughnut would have been about $200 more expensive. At this point, they’re practically giving these doughnuts away!
