Molten Salt and Watermelons Are Not A Good Summer Combination

By FWx Editors |

As it is almost a long holiday weekend, we know lots of people will be looking for activities to do outside. We’d like to take this time to recommend not blowing up a watermelon with molten salt in your yard. YouTube experimenter (and person with too much time on his hands) The Backyard Scientist did not take our recommendation though. In his most recent video he made a sequel to the very popular episode, “Pouring Molten Salt Into a Fish Tank” he put out a couple months ago, once again melting down common table salt from the grocery store at 1300 degrees, this time pouring it into coconuts and watermelons. We all know what’s coming next: exploded fruit.

We may never know why Backyard Scientist does what he does, but one thing is for sure: We do not want him to make us a fruit salad. Ever.
