For one weekend only, a McDonald’s pop-up concept in Australia did something apparently no other McDonald’s the world over has ever done before: It served only French fries. It’s a concept so crazy, it just might work. Except it already worked. And now it is closed. You see, that is the problem with pop-ups!
Called “Fries With That,” the three day pop-up in Sydney was a test run of potential toppings for McDonald’s Australia’s Loaded Fries option – which are currently only available in Guacamole & Salsa, Bacon & Cheese Sauce, and Gravy. (Don’t get too distracted by the fact that McDonald’s Australia has a “Loaded Fries” option; we don’t want to fall down that mind-altering rabbit hole.)
Patrons who dropped into Fries With That were able to try one of seven different options. Beyond the recently introduced Gravy variety, the pop-up also had Chipotle Cheese Sauce, Peri Peri Cheese Sauce, Sweet Chilli & Sour Cream, Pesto Mayo & Parmesan, Curry, and Caesar Sauce Bacon & Parmesan. Obviously, none of these options sound particularly healthy, but when you’re going to a pop-up restaurant that only serves McDonald’s French fries, seriously, what do you expect?
Beyond the crazy fry concoctions, Fries With That also sported some pretty impressive digs: clean décor with solid gray walls, white tiling and light wood paneling, accentuated with green potted plants, retro looking filament bulbs and a neon fry sign. The pictures make it look hipper than any actual McDonald’s I have ever been in.
Dare I say I would actually go to this version of McDonald’s?? Though knowing my luck, as soon as I got there I would be in mood for McNuggets.
