Matt Damon’s Chicken Diet Sounds Like Hell on Earth
We all know that celebs will do crazy things to drop pounds for a challenging movie role, but the idea of eating nothing but chicken breasts for three months sounds particularly terrible. In 1995, a 25 year-old Matt Damon was up for the challenge, losing 50 pounds to play the soldier-turned-heroin addict Ilario in Courage Under Fire.
In a Reddit AMA on Wednesday to promote his upcoming film Jason Bourne, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that Ilario was his most challenging role yet.
"That was the most physically challenging [thing] I've ever had to do in my life. I weigh probably 190 pounds right now, and I weighed 139 in that movie, and that is not a natural weight for me and not a happy weight for me even when I was 25," he said. “It's not like I had a chef or anything, I just made it up and did what I thought I had to do."
In addition to his unsupervised extreme diet, Damon also ran 13 miles a day and was eventually medicated to treat the stress he put on his adrenal gland. But don't feel too sorry for him. The star's method acting landed him a lead role in Francis Ford Coppola's The Rainmaker and the rest is history.
We'll stick to eating a variety of meats and well-balanced meals, but kudos to Damon for the commitment.
