Anthony Bourdain Has Absolutely No Interest In Eating Dinner With Donald Trump
If either presidential candidate was hoping to court the coveted foodie vote, Anthony Bourdain just gave them both the brush off – though the celebrity chef certainly had harsher words for The Donald. After Bourdain’s highly-touted, televised dinner with President Obama, during a recent interview with The Wrap, the site figured it was a fitting time to ask Bourdain if her would be willing to sit down with our forthcoming president – whoever it may be.
As to a private dinner with Trump, Bourdain provided a quick verbal smackdown. “Absolutely f—ing not,” he reportedly replied. “I’ve been a New Yorker most of my life, [and] for better or worse Mr. Trump is a New Yorker… We know him well here. We’ve watched how he does business and we’ve watched him say things and then we’ve seen whether or not he did those things, we have seen how he treats the people he does business with. I would give the same answer that I would have given 10 years ago, when he was just as loathsome.”
But before Trump supporters raise their pitchforks, turns out Bourdain isn’t particularly receptive to the idea of dining with Hillary Clinton either. “Honestly, that’s not the business I’m in. I mean [Obama] kind of fell in our lap. We didn’t reach out to the White House,” he’s quoted as saying. “I don’t think it’s something I’m anxious to do again. It’s something I’m really grateful I did this time around but it was an extraordinary occurrence.” That’s a pretty long, “No thanks,” but sounds like a rejection nonetheless.
Interestingly, Bourdain’s comments directly contradict a quote published by the New York Daily News back in June, when the chef and TV host was asked which presidential candidate he’s most like to have dinner with. At that time, Bourdain answered, “Trump. But for all the wrong reasons.” Despite the change of heart, it actually sounds like Trump and Bourdain would get along well. Speaking in contradictions is one of The Donald’s favorite hobbies too.
