You might guess that the best margarita recipe comes from Mexico, but as far as expert bartender Jim Meehan is concerned, you can’t beat the version invented in San Francisco about 20 years ago at a restaurant called Tommy’s. Though a classic margarita calls for tequila, lime juice and triple sec, an orange-flavored liqueur, Tommy’s margarita leaves out the triple sec, replacing it with agave syrup for a sweet, tart, perfectly balanced cocktail.
