Value Wine Friday: Two Under $20
Stopped off today to have lunch at Sfoglia, on Manhattan's Upper East Side. It's entirely charming in that designer-version-of-Italian-rustic way and I'd recommend it for dinner except that there's apparently a six week wait for reservations these days. Hence lunch. And why not, especially given how good the pasta special they had today was—linguine with braised carrots, celery, wine, veal ragù, and salsa verde (basically parsley, garlic and capers, in their rendition). Molto bene, and somehow a light enough dish both for a summer afternoon and for the white wine we had, a 2006 Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina ($15). Brisk, lightly bitter citrus/grapefruit flavors with a subtle mineral note, medium-bodied, vibrant. A great summer pour if you're looking for one, as would also be the terrific 2005 Santadi Villa Solais ($15), a blend of Vermentino and Nuragus from Sardinia that has graceful floral and lemon-zest aromas and crisp green apple fruit.
