Switzerland to World: Sausages. Please, Sausage!

By Nick Fauchald Posted January 24, 2008

In honor of my favorite new commercial (seriously, I can’t think of a better meat-based advertisement since this guy), some worrisome news from the European sausage front: Switzerland might run out of sausage, due to a E.U.-enforced ban (due to fear of mad cow disease) on Brazilian beef intestines, the preferred casing for its traditional cervelas sausages. Sausage is such a huge deal to the Swiss that “darm alarm” is spreading across the country (darm being the German word for intestine), and a “Task Force Cervelas” has been formed to lobby for the ban to be lifted. If it doesn’t, we might soon be hearing this cry for help ringing from the Alps.
