I recently came across an incredibly entertaining (and engaging, if you're into this kind of thing) blog called Cupcake Bakeshop. It's the brainchild of Cheryl Porro, a software quality engineer by day and cupcake baker by night. She has more fun riffs on cupcakes than I've ever seen. These aren't your run-of-the-mill coconut cupcakes. There are all sorts of kooky categories, like "beans" (Chinese mooncake cupcakes filled with bean paste), drink-inspired cupcakes (horchata cupcakes), and cupcakes with regional flavors (cupcakes inspired by Peru's Alfajore cookie). Today's offering: Red Hot Cupcakes, with ancho chile powder in the batter and ground Red Hot candies in the meringue frosting. Every cupcake is accompanied by a recipe and great photos.
