Tomorrow, New York City will experience its first annual Bacon Bash. The event will unite restaurants and bars like microbrew specialist Little Town NYC to serve bacony bites like pork meatball sliders with pancetta, while confectionaries will emphasize the sweeter side of America's meat obsession via bacon chocolates and boozy bacon cupcakes covered in candied bacon. Proving that bacon love endures at its most insane levels, the $50 event at the Arena Event Space in Times Square is sold out except for a final 6:30 p.m. session. For a lower-key bash at home, we suggest these Baby Brioches with Chicken Salad and Bacon. The two-bite snacks come together in just 25 minutes.

Space food has evolved way beyond freeze-dried ice cream and Tang. Since the 1980s, tortillas have been a large part of an astronaut's diet. “Sure they taste great,” former NASA pilot Charlie Justiz told Culturemap.com, “but that's not the reason tortillas are in space. It's because bread has crumbs and tortillas don't. You can't have crumbs floating around and clogging up the air vents. We've been sending them up for decades to the ISS (International Space Station) and on the shuttles. We used to get them from a little tortilla place near El Paso.” Down on Earth, tortillas are just as useful as they are in space and equally delicious, especially when filled with juicy rotisserie chicken—as they are in these Chicken and Cabbage Tacos with Cilantro Cream.

Thanks to a warm winter and a mild, early spring, pre-season honeybees are catching urban beekeepers—and pedestrians—by surprise. Rather than fear the swarms of (friendly when unprovoked) bees, New Yorkers should use the abundant honey in recipes like this Honey-Soy Sauce Chicken with Mâche-and-Citrus Salad. As Chase Emmons, a managing partner of Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm, told the New York Times: “City folk should be happy that we’re getting early-season honey.” Of course, non-New York residents can also make the sticky, salty-sweet drumsticks with their own local honey.

Today, Sir Paul McCartney turns 70. The legendary musician is, of course, best-loved for his work in The Beatles, but he spent an equal amount of time in Wings. Home cooks might be tempted to mark the knight's milestone with chicken wings—were it not for his ardent opposition to them. In 2010, the 40-year vegetarian and co-author of The Meat Free Monday Cookbook appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to duet with the host on a food-centric parody of "Yesterday." When Fallon attempted to add a verse about chicken wings, McCartney countered with tofu wings. In honor of McCartney's birthday, we're skipping the chicken today and instead suggest Fried Tofu with Spicy Ginger-Sesame Sauce. Pan-fried and topped with a soy-ginger sauce, this tofu dish is amazingly sweet, sticky, spicy and crispy.

Why does broccoli get cast as the bad guy? The green vegetable has arrived at the center of the America's debate about health care, the New York Times reports, with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia asking whether, if the government can oblige citizens to purchase health care, it might also require them to buy broccoli. The implication is that broccoli doesn't taste good—but that's easily disproven by Sesame-Coated Chicken with Broccoli. The F&W Test Kitchen's superfast recipe puts perfectly crisp-tender broccoli next to crunchy chicken in a spicy ginger-garlic sauce.

Today's trendy pizzas come in two varieties: There are the hyperauthentic, Neopolitan-style pizzas that have become an obsession for some chefs, and then there are pizzas with mini-cheeseburgers for crusts. Somewhere in the middle are from-scratch pizzas that come from a vending machine called Let's Pizza, which will soon appear in America. According to the CEO of the company that distributes it, the machine turns flour, water, organic tomato sauce and various toppings into a complete pizza in just 2.5 minutes (thanks to an infrared oven). Fast pizza doesn't have to come from machine, though. This Roasted Chicken and Leek Pizza—which uses juicy, store-bought rotisserie chicken to save time—takes only ten minutes to cook on a pre-heated pizza stone in the oven.

Christopher Columbus discovered two very different important things: America and harissa, North Africa's fantastically spicy condiment made from chiles. According to NPR's food blog, The Salt, upon arriving in what would become Central America, the explorer and his crew discovered chiles—which Mexican cultures had been using for centuries—and sent them back to Europe, where they were distributed throughout Spanish and Portuguese colonies such as those in Africa. North Africans embraced the peppers and transformed them into delicious, sweat-inducing harissa. While today the sauce is available for purchase in stores, harissa is easy to make and this recipe for Harissa Chicken with Green-Chile-and-Tomato Salad uses the homemade chile sauce as both a marinade and an accompaniment.

Millions of years ago a meteor slammed into the earth, wiping out the dinosaurs—but that’s not all. According to new research published in Nature (via Phys.org), the impact and subsequent solar eclipse also created stressful conditions for the original tomato plant, causing it to triple in size and eventually bear red fruit. No matter what color they turned out to be, we're thankful that tomatoes endured the dire conditions on earth for the sake of pizza, BLTs and these Tomato-and-Cilantro-Marinated Chicken Shashlik kebabs. The supersimple marinade combines tangy grated tomatoes with garlic, olive oil and cilantro.
