Hristo Zisovski, beverage director for New York’s Altamarea Group restaurants, is one of Food & Wine’s 2014 Sommeliers of the Year. Here are some of his favorite spots in NYC.

1. Danny Brown
A little one-Michelin-starred jewel in Forest Hills, Queens. Represent. I always drink well here with bottles that cost less than $45. 104-02 Metropolitan Ave.; 718-261-2144;

2. Pearl & Ash
When I see Patrick Cappiello, I always feel like drinking bubbles for some reason. 220 Bowery; 212-837-2370;; #sabertownusa

3. Osteria Morini
I always find fun, interesting, traditional central Italian wines to drink with the pasta here, or I have fresh draft wines from Emilia-Romagna. Yum! 218 Lafayette St.; 212-965-8777;

4. Rouge Tomate
I love having sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier teach me about something new and natural every time I go here. I seem to always find myself starting with a refreshing bottle of Muscadet. 10 E. 60th St.; 646-237-8977;

5. Terroir Murray Hill
It’s great to have somewhere to go in Midtown East that feels like downtown. I love to go here with the Ai Fiori team for some bottles and snacks after work. 439 Third Ave.; 212-481-1920;

6. Eleven Madison Park bar
When I need to impress, I take my wine friends to EMP to drink their deep selection of Chablis or northern Rhône. 11 Madison Ave.; 212-889-0905;

7. Ardesia
This is a fun neighborhood place in Hell’s Kitchen. I always find something I want to drink—like Italian Pigato or Austrian Blaufränkisch—on the traditional style–focused wine list. 510 W. 52nd St.; 212-247-9191;

8. Estela
A serious, focused wine list and a room filled with beautiful people. This Soho mezzanine-level restaurant is one of the hippest places to be in NYC. I love drinking Corsican reds by the glass. 47 E. Houston St.; 212-219-7693;

9. Charlie Bird
Charlie Bird, where hip-hop is great paired with Burgundy. Or Piedmont. Or Rhône. Or Tuscany. 5 King St.; 212-235-7133;

10. Dell’Anima
A great late-night place. I always start with a roasted-orange Negroni, and then I geek out on Joe Campanale’s fun spumanti selections. 38 Eighth Ave.; 212-366-6633;
