An Under-the-Radar Region That Makes Amazing Sauvignon Blanc

An Under-the-Radar Region That Makes Amazing Sauvignon Blanc

2012 Domaine du Salvard Cheverny:
In France's Loire Valley, the Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé regions produce some of the world's great zippy, minerally Sauvignon Blancs. This is no secret, which means the wines aren't cheap. Fortunately, nearby regions like Cheverny produce similar bottlings that can be had for much less money. Salvard's Cheverny might be less mineral than a typical Sancerre, but its bright, clean, grassy flavors are unmistakably Loire and very impressive for the price.

Drink It With: A cheesy soufflé. The wine's acid will cut through the richness.

Best Price Online: $11 at Linwood Wine & Liquor Co. (Find more stores.)

Also Look For: Wines from Quincy, another value-producing region in the Loire.
