Here, wine experts reveal their favorite bottles costing less than $17. Many of the selections are lesser known but absolutely worth the search.

Who: Jonathan Fenelon, assistant general manager and wine director at Clio, in Boston

What: 2012 Spaetrot Gebeshuber Klassic (made with Zierfandler and Rotgipfler grapes)

Why: "I love this wine! People go so Grüner [Veltliner] happy at this time of year and I don't blame them. I always like to find alternative, lesser-known grapes. Whoever has heard of Zierfandler or Rotgipfler? Cray. Hand-harvested and -sorted, it is fresh and lively with notes of various citrus, fresh grain clusters and acid for days. It is gulpable and accessible for anything green, fish and fowl. Heck, I would even pound some Chinese takeout with it."
