Unless you count Dean Martin's “That’s Amore,” pizza and poetry don’t often intersect. But today, customers in Oakland and New Orleans will get an order of stanzas delivered with their slices. In celebration of National Poetry Month, New Orleans’s Big Class and Oakland’s Chapter 510—two educational programs for young writers—partnered with local restaurants to publish student work on pizza boxes. Participants include New Orleans’s Mid City Pizza, Pizza Delicious and Reginelli’s Pizzeria, as well as Oakland’s Lanespitter Pizza and Rotten City Pizza. Here, a close-up of one of the pizza-themed poems.

Sweet Pizza

Pizza, oh sweet pizza.
You are so beautifully delicious with your delicious pepperoni,
your awesome cheese.
Your crust and sauce is a please.
Pizza, I can eat you for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Pizza you're the best,
don't let nobody change you.
Keep being awesome
that's your job.
