F&W 2009 BNC Christopher Kostow kicked off his epic Twelve Days of Christmas at Napa's Meadowood on Friday. First started in 2008, the annual series is one of the country's most ambitious charity programs supported by guest chefs. Each night, a different chef (including Kostow) serves a multi-course dinner. This year’s line-up includes F&W BNC 2006 David Chang, and Rasmus Kofoed of Geranium in Copenhagen; vintners supplying wine pairings range from Napa legends like Grgich Hills Estate to Sonoma upstart Scribe Winery.

The event gets buzz; what’s less advertised is its extraordinary impact. Thanks to sponsors, Meadowood can afford to donate 20 percent of the proceeds. Since launching, they’ve given over $230,000 to Share Our Strength. This year, Kostow and team are donating to two local recipients: The Holly Cranston Memorial Fund, which provides practical assistance to families in need, and an esteemed women’s shelter, Napa Emergency Women’s Services (NEWS). Rough math based on confirmed reservations suggests that each stands to receive at least $25,000.
