In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, New York restaurants and bars aren't the only food-related businesses that are closed due to damages and power outages below 42nd Street. Many events and classes have also been canceled. The International Culinary Center in Soho cut all of this weekend's courses. Mario Batali's Eataly has shuttered until power is restored—they're hoping in time for Monday's Pasta 101 class. Astor Wines & Spirits may be delivering wine, but the phones at its Astor Center event space are down. Murray's Cheese will update students via email if its upcoming pairings class is off. And The James Beard House sustained damage during the storm.

Events there, including a free exhibit of Jon Chonko's brilliant “scanwiches,” should resume next week. Despite transportation mayhem, however, the following events are still taking place in New York from now through the weekend. And they're ready for your support.

Thursday, November 1
FIAF's Creative Leaders: Danny Meyer, 7 p.m.
The French Institute/Alliance Française will continue its series of talks with influential French and American innovators tonight with a visit from restaurateur extraordinaire Danny Meyer at FIAF's Upper East Side headquarters. Food humorist Robert Rosenthal will chat with Meyer about his hospitality roots, his overseas inspirations and his fantastic restaurant empire, which includes Gramercy Tavern and the celebrated Shake Shack chain. fiaf.org; $25.

Thursday, November 1
Gran Electrica's El Dia De Los Muertos
While its sister restaurant in Dumbo, Governor, faces devastating damages from Sandy, Gran Electrica is up-and-running for business. Tonight, they will be serving classic Day of the Dead dishes like pozole, mole poblano and tamales. Starting at 9 p.m., festivities will include a Mexican brass marching band, make-up stations and mezcal cocktails. granelectrica.com.

Friday, November 2
Shababa Bakery, 10:15 a.m.
This weekly cooking class teaches kids (and accompanying adults) to roll and braid challah bread. At the end of the class, kids take home their braided dough to bake. 92y.org; $15 per child, adults free.

Momofuku Benefits for the American Red Cross
David Chang’s Momofuku empire is hosting three events with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross. Booker and Dax is setting up a temporary space in midtown's Má Pêche with cocktail wizard Dave Arnold at the helm serving drinks from 5 p.m. until close.

There will be a pop-up until 10 p.m. in Williamsburg’s Milk Bar, where Momofuku's famous buns (pork belly and others) will be sold two for $10 until 10 p.m. And at Café Boulud, Chang will team up with Daniel Boulud’s crew for a six-course dinner tonight at 6:30 p.m. Dinner plus drinks will be $495.

Motorino Serves Pizza by Candlelight to Support the Red Cross
In a blackout zone, Motorino's Mathieu Palombino has been hand-making dough and serving pizzas to hungry East Village crowds by candlelight since Tuesday. Tonight, all proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.

Saturday and Sunday, November 3 and 4
Bread and Brew, 6:30 p.m.
Prospect Park's Lefferts Historic House will host a celebration of Brooklyn's Dutch roots with beer, bread and beer garden-inspired snacks like sauerkraut and spicy cookies called speculoos. Guests will sip beers from Brooklyn Brewery while getting a hands-on lesson in beer bread making from Lefferts Historic House director, Elyse Newman, around an outdoor fireplace. prospectpark.org/calendar/event/bread-and-brew; $25.

Saturday, November 3
Smorgasburg, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
The weekly gathering of some of Brooklyn's best food purveyors will go ahead as usual on the Williamsburg waterfront. If L-train service still is not restored, Manhattanites looking for bites of schnitzel, oversized turkey legs and kombucha on tap can take a ride on the East River Ferry, which is up and running and stops right nearby. Select vendors will be donating a portion of this weekend's sales to local relief effortssmorgasburg.com.
