Dine Out NYC (#DineOutNYC on Twitter) is part of an ongoing effort to help New York area restaurants, bars (and let’s not forget pastry shops) recover from damage and loss of revenue caused by Hurricane Sandy. The idea is for consumers to get out and eat in battered neighborhoods like downtown Manhattan, along with parts of Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens. But many restaurants that emerged from the storm relatively unscathed are also finding ways to help. Here, some of the many specials and events taking place from Boston to New York this week.

NOW through Saturday, November 10:
Blankets for Balls

Drop off clean blankets at any of The Meatball Shop’s locations on the Lower East Side, in the West Village and in Williamsburg and receive a free order of Naked Balls: Four meatballs with focaccia and a choice of sauce. themeatballshop.com.

NOW through Sunday, November 11: Shake Shack’s Rally Shake
Danny Meyer’s celebrated Shake Shack chain is offering Rally Shakes, dense milkshakes made with New York City’s iconic black and white cookies for $5.50. For every Rally Shake sold, Shake Shack will donate $2 to the American Red Cross. shakeshack.com.

Tuesday, November 6: Sour Election Night, 7 p.m.
Cobble Hill beer bar Mission Dolores will host an election party/fundraiser featuring unusual tart sour beers, and guest appearances from star bartenders from Bait and Tackle and Fort Defiance in Red Hook, an area devastated by Sandy. Proceeds from each pint will go to the Red Hook Initiative. missiondoloresbar.com/blog.

Wednesday, November 7: Boston Chefs Support NYC Restaurants, 7 p.m.
In Boston, seven amazing chefs are teaming up to throw a 50-seat dinner at Mike’s City Diner to benefit New York restaurants. Ken Oringer, Jamie Bissonnette, Ming Tsai, Tony Maws and others will prepare a lavish $500-a-head meal featuring foie gras, lobster, white alba truffles and a raw bar from Island Creek Oysters. For reservations email Toro at tororestaurant@gmail.com.

Wednesday, November 7: NYC Food Flood, 7 p.m.
George Mendes’s Aldea near Union Square will host a star-chef-packed dinner with proceeds going to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Marco Canora (Hearth), Seamus Mullen (Tertulia), Andrew Carmellini (Locanda Verde and The Dutch) and Mendes will each prepare a dish. The cost of the meal is $300 per person. For reservations email nycfoodflood@gmail.com.

Thursday, November 8: Dine Out Williamsburg
Many of Williamsburg’s restaurants, which came out of the storm relatively unscathed, will give 10 to 20 percent of gross sales on Thursday night to the American Red Cross’s Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Neighborhood residents are encouraged to get out, dine and drink at participating businesses, which include fantastic spots like Reynards in the Wythe Hotel, Dressler and even the indie movie theater for food lovers, Nitehawk Cinema. dineoutwilliamsburg.com.

Thursday, November 8: Friends of the Food Bank for NYC, 6 p.m.-9p.m.
Former model and Real Housewife of New York, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, will host an evening of boozy smoothies and other fresh fruit cocktails at Cocktail Bodega on the Lower East Side.
