America’s favorite cheerleader for “real food” is back at it again: Jamie Oliver launched the first ever international Food Revolution Day on May 19 with 540 dinner parties and 460 events. One of the genius initiatives included a farmers' market food swap in Boulder, CO, where participants traded junk food for fresh produce. The activities all aimed at finding new ways to improve how we eat. F&W's Jennifer Sommer sat down with Oliver and other big-name foodies in Los Angeles, where brainstorming took place over grilled Monterey Bay squid with salsa verde and more market-driven dishes prepared by the rock star team at Gjelina. Here's Sommer's report.

Late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, Entourage actor Adrian Grenier and Australian pop singer Cody Simpson batted around ingenious ideas like this one: creating a processed-food rating system similar to New York and L.A.’s health inspection letter grades for restaurants. Over the weekend, 2010 Best New Chef Roy Choi—the hometown hero behind Los Angeles’s Kogi BBQ truck and the new Jamaican-inflected Sunny Spot restaurant—also scored face time with Oliver after recently writing a heartfelt post on his blog about his desire to eat less meat and join Oliver’s coalition. His exact words: "Are we supposed to put our faith in this man Jamie Oliver? A Brit? If so, then anyone who reads this, tell him to holla at me." The two sat down privately for “quite an emotional meeting," according to Oliver. “He is clearly a passionate, genius fellow with a lot of love and respect for his troops,” Oliver said of Choi. “I have so many people writing to me all the time, but something just told me that this was a special guy,” he continued. We’re all excited to see what they can build together.
