One More Reason to Go to PDT

As I blogged yesterday, I didn't need any more reasons to go to PDT, especially after it was named World's Best Cocktail Bar at last week's Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans (its mixologist, Jim Meehan, was named Best American Bartender). Then I heard details about its newest hot dog, courtesy of next-door Crif Dogs. The El Perro Rodriguez, which is named for Jalinson Rodriguez, chef at the nearby tapas spot Mercat, is a grilled beef dog topped with chorizo. And a fried egg. And aioli. Even better, just in time for the hot weather, Meehan is adding the Pharoah Cooler to PDT's menu on Monday. The drink, a refreshing mix of blanco tequila, watermelon juice and agave nectar, was created by the absurdly young visiting mixologist Jack McGarry of Merchant Bar in Belfast (the only place to win more Tales awards than Meehan/PDT—for World's Best Hotel Bar, World's Best Drink Selection and World's Best Cocktail Menu). Next up for PDT—new T-shirts emblazoned with the bar's royal crest.
