The Ultimate Sweet Gift

There's an onslaught right now of articles suggesting the best food gifts to give for the holidays. I could probably come up with a fairly substantial list myself, especially given everything we taste here through the year. But instead, I am using this opportunity to put all of my eggs in one basket. I have only ONE suggestion this year, for what I consider to be the most delicious, indulgent, supremely pleasurable gift to give. It's called a modjeska, after the well-known Polish actress Helena Modjeska (1840-1909). Her namesake is a soft marshmallow covered in a sticky, golden, creamy caramel. There's only one place in the U.S. to get this treasure, and it's from the Bauer family in Kentucky, which has been making the candy since 1889. You can order directly from the Bauers, or from Williams-Sonoma. Modjeskas are soft and sweet and heavenly. I hope someone gives me some this year.
