1990 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape ($175) One of the top wines of the Rhône, from a legendary vintage, this textbook Châteauneuf was, to me, the top wine at the great offline Beaucastel lunch.

1995 Joseph Phelps Insignia Napa Valley ($130) One of the most consistent Bordeaux-style blends from California. This wine, which I tasted at a "best of the USA" offline dinner, is wonderfully polished and beautifully balanced.

1994 Schramsberg Late Disgorged Blanc de Blancs ($60) This gorgeous, rich sparkling wine was another big hit at the "best of the USA" dinner.
