The downtown neighborhood anchored by Verizon Center and the National Portrait Gallery, north of Pennsylvania Avenue—known as Penn Quarter, Chinatown or Gallery Place, depending on whom you ask—is booming. Recent additions include Proof, Oyamel and Cowgirl Creamery; the popular PS 7's (777 I St. NW; 202-742-8550) from former Vidalia chef Peter Smith; D'Acqua (801 Pennsylvania Ave. NW; 202-783-7717); and, just to the south, Wolfgang Puck's brand-new restaurant The Source (575 Pennsylvania Ave. NW; 202-637-6100).
