For all its perceived trendiness, Notting Hill was never fertile restaurant ground. Then in spring 2005, the owners of the two-Michelin-starred The Square opened The Ledbury. The decor is serious—faux Doric columns, heavy black curtains—but the modern European menu from young Australian chef Brett Graham is imaginative and technically brilliant. Asparagus is served with a deep-fried hen's egg in a nest of kataifi (Greek dough); a lobster and new-potato terrine is paired with frog's legs beignets. DETAILS 127 Ledbury Rd.; 011-44-20-7792-9090.
