Chateau Marmont The once-fabulous Sunset Strip is finally recovering from an era of seedy nightclubs and XXX-rated stores. Leading the comeback are Mohammed Islam and Malika Ameen, the new chefs at Chateau Marmont, the Gothic hotel where Howard Hughes once hid from the world. The dining room seats only 25, but most guests prefer to eat on the restaurant's patio beneath the cypress trees, perhaps ordering lamb loin with red-curry emulsion or sticky-toffee pudding (8221 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood; 323-656-1010). Islam and Ameen have also taken over the kitchen at the 24-hour coffee shop in Chateau Marmont's sister hotel, The Standard (8300 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood; 323-650-9090).
