There are four less-well-known Napa AVAs that are home to only a modest handful of wineries:
Oak Knoll District
Just south of Yountville. One of the best-known wineries here is Trefethen Vineyards, known for its reliable Cabernets. Other notables include Andretti, Monticello Vineyards and Koves-Newlan.
Atlas Peak
In the valley's eastern hills. Home to the Sangiovese-producing winery of the same name. Astrale e Terra, another Atlas Peak winery, produces respectable Bordeaux varieties.
Wild Horse Valley
Due east of the city of Napa. A vineyard source for several wineries, including Tulocay. Part of the AVA lies in Solano County.
Chiles Valley District
Northeast of Rutherford, and a separate valley from Napa. Notable wineries include Volker Eisele, Nichelini and Green & Red.
