Telmo Rodríguez makes many wines; here are four of my favorites.
1999 Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra ($35)
This utterly delicious old-vine Grenache, with its spicy notes and lush fruit, has been called "the Rayas of Spain"a nod to the famous Grenache-based Châteaneuf-du-Pape.
2001 Lanzaga Rioja ($25)
A very modern Rioja, made with lavish new French oak framing rich, ripe fruit from one of Telmo's old-vine Tempranillo sources in Rioja.
2002 Molino Real Málaga ($53)
This bright apricot- and pear-inflected bottlingwith surprisingly brisk acidityis a stylistic exception to the traditional fortified wines of Málaga.
2003 Basa Rueda ($11)
Appealing flavors of citrus and pear, and a clean, crisp finish, are the hallmarks of this refreshing, affordable white blend.
